My friend Tim in Costa Rica reports that his “inquiries” (his site is linked under my handy Costa Rica links page) about retiring in Costa Rica have gone up exponentially since O’Care passed.
So we are not the only ones planning to go Galt. I am relieved not to have to watch first hand our country being dismantled by the socialists. Even my mom is totally fed up! Most of her e-mails are rants.
The whole thing is so utterly predictable, I see the whining now that we conservatives are being mean and using dangerous language. What did they think would happen, we’d smile and say “please sir, may I have some more?”. Argh.
I’m not in the mood to rant, but I just wanted to mention what Tim said.
Oh yeah, our hotel is filling up for the Easter week…a bunch of les francais checked in yesterday. Oddly, as I attempt to learn spanish my french is coming back, which is somewhat confusing. But at least I’m able to converse sometimes! B’ster says the same thing….about his Chinese. It’s an odd mix we’re speaking these days.

Hi. I have enjoyed reading your blog very much. Sure wish I was on the same trip. I live in Iowa. The Anti-Christ visited our State today to continue pushing his already-passed healthcare-eliminate-capitalism bill. Suffice it say, I found your blog because I want to leave this country. I too, hate to watch the US be dismantled. Anyway, I have a couple of questions What does “go Galt” mean? and Do you own a hotel in Mexico? … Costa Rica? Enjoy your trip!
Hi Karl,
No, we don’t own a hotel or anything in Latin America for that matter (I wish!). We saw the writing on the wall last year, and decided to explore Costa Rica as an end destination. We made two trips there last year, via American Airlines, the second time taking my (80ish) mom along. We rented a car and stayed for a few weeks each time.
We decided to do a longer exploration before permanently relocating. If you visit my “pages”…you’ll find a wonderful website…”The Real Costa Rica.com”….it has all of the dish on Costa Rica.
“Going Galt” merely means dropping out of being the means of production for the sucking hand-out seeking class of parasites. Screw them all. I am no longer going to provide the means for them to buy plasmas and Nikes, on my dime. I am taking (what’s left) of my money and running. The term is from Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged”….an omiously precscient novel of the 50′s. If you haven’t read it, you should, although it is a long, difficult slog.
Feel free to keep in touch via my blog. We’re happy to answer any and all questions. I suspect the media’s focus on the violence in Central America is to keep us quiet and under control….it’s been nothing but wonderful since we entered Mexico over a week ago. We’re leaving for Guatemala and points south on Saturday. Contrary to popular belief, the peoples here are friendly and accomodating.
So welcome to my blog. I’ve been to Iowa, and although it is a lovely place with wonderful people, this is better. Much. Cheers, and again, welcome!

Thanks so much for the response! I have now read some “summaries” Atlas Shrugged.” I love the idea of no longer supporting the parasites – screw them all!!!!! You have done such a wonderful, wonderful, job with your blog. Thank you. I enjoy reading it very much and have sent the link to friends of mine who share our view of the nanny state. I liquidated my investments a few months ago and I intend to put my house on the market next month. I too plan to take my money and run. I believe it is not if, but when, Big G takes its from me for redistribution. FYI – I found your blog through “The Real Costa Rica.” Thanks again. I will continue to follow you on your adventure.
